Boating and water sports
Lake Eufaula is a water lover’s haven with sandy swim beaches and plenty of places for boating and swimming. Boat enthusiasts can bring their own boat and access the lake through dozens of available boat ramps. If you don’t own a boat, no worries, there are several options available for boat rentals, including pontoon boats, power boats and paddle boats. Regulations governing operational requirements of boats may be obtained from the Eufaula Area Corps Office near the dam. While you’re out on the lake, you can enjoy a variety of water sports including skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, canoeing or whatever floats your boat!
Lake Eufaula hosts two major poker runs including the Golden Eagle Poker Run (June) and the Whole Hawg Days Poker Run (July) both offering exciting events for boaters to win cash prizes. Several smaller poker runs are organized throughout the season.
Fishing
Fishing is another big attraction at Lake Eufaula OK. It is a year-round sport on the lake. There are plenty of places to drop a line, take in the scenery and enjoy the calming sound of the waves lapping against the shore. Some of the largest fish in the state of Oklahoma have been caught at Lake Eufaula.
Sought out fish include large mouth bass, small mouth bass, catfish, crappie and white bass. Striped bass can be found below the dam, while bow fishing for carp and gar is also plentiful at Lake Eufaula OK. Several of the marinas even offer year-round fishing with an enclosed, heated dock and tackle shop.
For the competitive fisherman the lake hosts a slew of fishing tournaments throughout the year attracting anglers from across the country.
Hunting
If you want to spend the day on land, nearly 50,000 acres surrounding the lake, designated for hunting of varying populations of deer, rabbit, fox, raccoon, squirrel, coyote, bobcat and duck. Lower numbers are available in quail, turkey, dove and waterfowl. Hunting and fishing are regulated by state and federal laws, please check licensing requirements prior to arriving.
Trails
Eufaula Lake offers multiple site seeing trails. The Dogwood Trail, located in Belle Starr Park South, is approximately one mile in length. The Terrapin Trail is located at Dam Site South park area winds above the beach area for just under one mile. Both trails offer vegetation, large red cedar trees and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife.
Horseback riding
There are several horse and pony riding parks available throughout Lake Eufaula. Sites offers everything you need if you have your own horse or want your first horse riding experience. Self and professional guided paths are available for exploration. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day out of exploring the trails.
ATV trails
The Eufaula Dam is an incredible site to see and is open year-round, including evenings. Situated just below the dam sits a 300-acre trail site offering wooded areas, rolling dunes, perfect for exploring by motorcycle, ATV, dune buggy, 4×4 or any other utility terrain vehicles. There is no charge for admission to the trail park, but helmets are required.
Golfing
Fountainhead Creek Golf Course
Located in Lake Eufaula State Park is Fountainhead Creek Golf Course was designed by Floyd Farley, ASGCA. The 18-hole course features views of the lake, a driving range, putting green and pro shop. The course also offers lessons. Come by for the day or take advantage of their weekend and full season passes. Cart and club rentals are available.
The Arrowhead Golf Course at Arrowhead State Park features a full-service 18-hole, 72-par course that provides a spectacular view of the lake from two holes on the course and minimal water hazards. Be sure to stop by and say hi to Holly the course mascot.
Festivals and fairs
Lake Eufaula OK is host to numerous festivals and events throughout the year. Some annual highlights are:
April: Muskogee Azalea Festival is an annual festival welcoming in spring that celebrates the blooming of azaleas, tulips, dogwoods and wisteria as these buds begin.
May: Eufaula Heritage Days Festival celebrates the start of the city and its heritage.
June: Each year on Father’s Day weekend, Longtown hosts the annual “Ten Mile Long Garage Sale;” a great place to find one-of-a kind treasures.
July: Annual 4th of July celebration and fireworks.
July: Whole Hawg Days includes a carnival, poker run on the lake, BBQ cook-off, car show, and more.
August/September: Eufaula Pow Wow and Homecoming a celebration of Native American dancing and singing, arts and crafts vendors, food concessions, raffles and more.
October: BARKtoberfest, a fun event for the whole family happens each October at Porches & Pastures Real Estate
Also in October is Lake Eufaula’s Art Festival features local artists and one of a kind crafters.
December: Christmas light boat parade and cookie crawl gets you ready for the holidays.
State parks
Lake Eufaula State Park & Deep Fork Nature Center
Lake Eufaula State Park is located on a sprawling 102,000-acre reservoir with much to be explored. A favorite for families with children and the perfect spot for a picnic lunch, playing on the playground or testing your luck at the nearby fishing pond. There’s always something happening at the Nature Center and hands-on exhibits offer a fun way to experience and learn more about native wildlife such as deer, squirrels, rabbits and wild turkeys.
Located in the park, Lake Eufaula Stables offers guided pony and trail rides, no experience needed. You are also welcome to bring your own horse and spend the day exploring trails on your own.
The state park has a free 18-hole disc golf course at Hummingbird Beach. The disc golf course is free to use so bring your own disc or rent one from the gift shop. Additional park amenities include biking, boating, archery and volleyball.
Arrowhead State Park features 2,200 scenic acres including 25-miles of equestrian trails and horses for rent. The park also offers picnic shelters, a marina, playgrounds, trails, miniature golf course, swimming area, mountain biking, equestrian campground and stables.
The park features more than 100 tent and 91 RV sites. Group camping for up to 144 people is available via group camps with a kitchen and bunkhouses.
If hiking is your thing, you can make a day of it by packing a lunch and taking advantage of their two hiking trails. The park marina offers a restaurant, fuel, tackle, bait, indoor fishing and a nearby swimming area. Kids can enjoy the play area and petting zoo.
